Wedding Advice/Help?
As most of you probably know by now, Angie and I are getting married in July. Specifically, we're planning on July 21st. Unfortunately, we're both full-time students and, as a result, flat broke...

So we'd like to ask for some advice!

1) We're looking for a nice, affordable place in the greater Los Angeles area. We will probably end up with around 100 guests (we both have large families). Angie's mom has hinted that she has some money set aside to help us out, but she won't say how much until we've committed to a location (which we can't really do, since we're poor...).

2) We have no idea who will actually marry us. Angie's family is Catholic, mine is Mormon... but Angie and I are Pagan. We need to find someone that we can sit down with and craft vows that are true to our needs, but respectful our are parent's faiths. Any ideas?

Anyway, we'd really appreciate any help or advice you can offer... we're a bit in the dark on this and rapidly running out of time!

Thanks!!!
Lars & Angie

[info]thefreak and I were thinking of writing our own vows and asking a friend to do the actual ceremony. We aren't really church-going people either, so it feels disrespectful to fetch a random priest and ask him to do a solemn religious rite when everyone knows we're pretty much easter-and-christmas Catholics.

You can have your friend become a minister through the Universal Life Church (free, non-denominational), or you can have them deputized through the county for a day ($35, and some sort of swearing-in), and they'll be eligible to sign off on your wedding license as a minister.

Good luck with the site.. have you thought of maybe doing this in a big park? Lots of space, and not too pricey. :)

yeah, I think the friend/minister path sounds best... There are a couple of parks we've talked about, but we're a bit concerned about the heat - of course, that might be a perfect excuse to skip tuxedos! ;)

I gave all my wedding wisdom to angie already...speaking of which I need to update her on some stuff.

On another note...you shoulda told me you added me if you actually wanted to read most of the entries in my journal--they're mostly friends only! I'll add ya back.

hey! eric stone is a minister. do you guys know him? he might be willing, but is planning his wedding this year, so I would ask him. He has married several of our "group". also, don't think in terms of "buildings" for weddings. I think someplace nice and earthy would be great for you both.something like descanso gardens?http://www.descansogardens.org/newwedding/

and hey! I added ya!

Thanks! We're definitely cool with a non-building affair, but Angie's mom wants something a bit more... uh... normal. It's tough balancing our needs with the family's. Oh well! :)

We're thinking about asking one of our friends to become internet-ordained (http://www.themonastery.org/?destination=ordination) and to perform the ceremony. He's like 6'2" with dreads halfway down his back... we've got to add the non-normal somehow, right?

Oh, and thanks for the add! :)
